STOP COMPARING

Over the past few months my internal alarm clock has gone off around 3am and I haven’t been able to go back to sleep.

I’ve had some heavy things on my mind and this morning was no exception.

Instead of tossing, turning, and getting annoyed about not being able to sleep, I decided to get out of bed and journal. I grabbed my notebook and sat on the couch.

While I was writing, some heavy “I’m not enough stuff” came up. It is at the root of all my negative thoughts, and something I keep uncovering as I peel back the layers in my life and my business.

As I was feeling the heaviness, I looked over at the table and saw the vase of ranunculus I’d picked up at Trader Joe’s a few days before.

They were stunning.

Hot pink, yellow, and orange, with the most perfect bright green stems.

I sat in the stillness and stared at their beauty while God tutored me.

“Minda, do you see those beautiful flowers? You would never look at them and compare them to a Juliet rose or a peony. It’s because they’re ranunculus. I created them to be exactly as they are, and I created you to be exactly as you are.“

It was a simple message, but the absolute truth of it sunk deep into me.

Would I ever walk into a garden of flowers and judge or compare them to each other? The very thought sounded absurd.

Early this morning I recommitted. I decided I’m not going to compare my life or business to anyone but me.

Yes, it’s going to take some practice and some shifting of my thoughts, but I’m up for it.

Who’s going to join me?
