What if I told you I was going to drop you off on a deserted island for a week.
Might be fun to relax and catch up on sleep for a few days.
But then what?
For most people, the thought of being solitary sounds boring, lonely, and even scary.
It’s becasuse most of us haen’t developed intimacy with ourselves.
I’m not talking about romance, I’m talking about really knowing who we are.
Every summer I take a trip by myself.
With each passing year I get to know myself better.
I get more comfortable with myself.
I learn more about what it means to really love myself.
I see and I’m seen.
By me.
There was a time when I thought taking this time for myself might be selfish.
But not anymore.
I’ve learned if I can’t see and know and love myself deeply, I can’t see and know and deeply love other people either.
The truth is we can only love other people to the degree that we love ourselves.
