Last weekend my family was in a funk. I thought about what I could do to lighten the mood, and the answer was simple.
Simple because it’s the answer to every problem.
Homemade bread.
I grabbed 10 bread pans underneath the stove and enlisted the help of my husband and teenage son.
They foraged the flour, yeast, oil, and salt from the pantry.
I mixed up the first batch of dough and my husband started on the second.
In less than 20 minutes we had ten smooth dough balls lined up like little soldiers in tin bread pans.
The mood was getting lighter by the minute.
As soon as the loaves doubled in size, we placed them in the oven. Thirty five minutes away from bread heaven.
The oven timer went off and we cut into the first loaf.
Hot, steamy goodness topped with mounds of Kerrygold butter and homemade raspberry jam. I could hardly contain myself as I took the first bite.
Wait a minute,
Something was off.
Very off.
I knew I had followed the recipe perfectly to make the first batch of dough, so it must have been the second. I went over the recipe with my husband to see if he got all the ingredients right.
Water-check
Flour-check
Yeast- check
Oil- check
Salt- Nope
Crap! He forgot the salt!
I was not pleased about this.
Not at all.
I tasted a small sliver from each loaf and I could immediately tell which ones had the salt, and which ones did not. The salt-less bread tasted bad. Real bad.
It wasn’t even worth eating.
Half of the loaves turned out deliciously amazing and brought me so much joy. The other 5 were a complete flop, and made me really sad.
All of these big emotions got me thinking about the greatest thing I learned at The Life Coach School.
I learned that about half of the time we’re going to experience positive emotions, and half of the time we’re going to experience the exact opposite.
It’s the 50/50 rule.
Since I’d learned this concept in school, I had been watching for it and I had noticed that it was true.
When we are living the full human experience, we’re going to feel both positive and negative emotion, each about fifty percent of the time.
The bread was proof!
We’re pretty good at handling the 50 percent positive, but do you know what to do when the negative part shows up?
I’d love to be your guide so you know what to do when those negative emotions show up.
Are you ready?
